"For this blog I thought I would dedicate this time to one of my past favorite bands, The Filthy Youth. A couple days ago I realized that I really missed this band. This British, indie rock band formed in 2006 between five friends (Ed Westwick, Ben Allingham, Jimmy Wright, Tom Bastiani, and John Voight). I was probably a freshman in high school when I first heard there popular hits "Come Flash All You Ladies" & "Orange". These two songs were even featured on the CW drama, Gossip Girl, which Ed Westick (lead singer) starred in as one of the main characters."
"This band created such unique songs that provided upbeat melodies and dirty guitar riffs. The tune "One More Second", one of my favorite songs, opens with a simple guitar tab that instantly gets your foot tapping to the beat. Soon you find the bass coming in with smooth, legato chords that gets the song really pumping. Before you know it, the drums provide a terrific build up that leads to a perfect transition into the first verse with Ed's unique, talking-like vocals."
"Unfortunately, this band came to end. There really isn't a specific date of when the band split because they're considered an "underground group". The lead singer ended up leaving the band because he wanted to focus more on his acting career, which the band fully supported 100%. I hope in the future that these guys get back together and create some new music because the withdrawal is killing me!! Until then though, I'll enjoy the music that lives on.
